There are more than 20 million SMEs in the EU. They represent 99% of all businesses in the EU and are a key driver of economic growth, innovation, employment and social inclusion.

The European Commission aims to foster business success and improve the business environment for SMEs, enabling them to realise their full potential in today's global economy. The European Commission addresses a wide range of policy challenges affecting entrepreneurship and SMEs across Europe and develops mechanisms to help SMEs (SME networks and platforms, business support measures). It is active on behalf of both existing and potential entrepreneurs.
