Metreoloģijas biroja likvidācija valsts budžetā ļaus ietaupīt 190000 eiro

By liquidating the “Metrology Office” unit of SIA “Latvian National Metrology Centre” (LNMC), the Ministry of Economics (ME) will save approximately 150 thousand euros per year in the state budget.

Additionally, starting in 2026, by withdrawing from the international organization “International Bureau of Weights and Measures,” a further 40 thousand euros per year will be saved.

On Tuesday, December 2, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft law “On Measurement Uniformity,” as well as the related Cabinet of Ministers Regulations No. 3 of January 7, 2014, “Regulations on National Metrology Institutions.” The draft law was prepared based on the Cabinet’s instructions and aims to streamline the legal framework regarding the liquidation of the LNMC unit “Metrology Office.”

The purpose of the draft law is to optimize state funding by reviewing the tasks and functions of national metrology institutions. Several tasks that have lost relevance due to the system’s reorganization are to be removed from the law “On Measurement Uniformity,” while current functions will be transferred to LNMC, including the approval of national measuring instruments and their registration in the State Measuring Instruments Register.

“The planned changes will ensure that the national metrology system becomes more efficient and better aligned with current state priorities, promoting increasingly effective use of the state budget,” said Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis.

As a result of the optimization measures in the state metrology sector, starting in 2026, state budget expenditures are expected to be reduced by a total of 190 thousand euros per year.

For the draft law “On Measurement Uniformity” to enter into force, it still needs to be adopted by the Saeima.
