According to data from the Central Statistical Bureau, the output volumes of the manufacturing industry in January 2025, compared to January 2024, increased by 1.8% both in unadjusted and seasonally adjusted data.

There are still differing development trends in the sub-sectors of the industry. In January of this year, the most significant positive impact on manufacturing, in year-on-year terms according to unadjusted data, came from the largest sub-sector – wood processing (+9%). Significant increases were also recorded in the production of non-metallic mineral products (+32.4%), food products (+5%), and rubber and plastic products (+16.8%). Meanwhile, the production volumes of computers, electronic, and optical equipment (-13%), motor vehicles and trailers (-19.6%), and chemical industry (-9.7%) decreased.

In January, the turnover of the manufacturing industry at current prices decreased by 0.5% year-on-year, mainly due to a 1.6% decrease in the volume of domestically sold products. On the other hand, the volume of exported products was 0.1% higher than a year ago. The most significant increases were in the sales of food products and rubber and plastic products.

It is expected that this year, monthly growth rates in the manufacturing industry will mostly remain positive. This will continue to be influenced by export opportunities. Challenges will persist for companies that are still or have been tied to the markets of Russia and other CIS countries. In this situation, they will have to continue searching for new supply opportunities and sales markets. Industries oriented towards the domestic market will be affected by the purchasing power of the population.
