On June 8 this year, the Cabinet of Ministers decided on the extension of support measures for Ukrainian refugees, who are arriving in Latvia due to the war caused by Russia.

The primary support provided to the Ukrainian civilians welcomed by Latvia so far ends in June and it is necessary to provide stable and predictable conditions for both these persons and local governments organising accommodation as regards the extent and duration of the provision of the state support to be primarily provided in the future.

The amendments to the Law on Assistance to Ukrainian Civilians supported by the Cabinet of Ministers provide that all Ukrainian civilians are eligible for the primary support – accommodation – for up to 120 days, but not longer than until 31 December 2022.

It is also envisaged that the compensation for the accommodation of Ukrainian civilians will be available to natural and legal persons for a period of up to 120 days, but not longer than until 31 December 2022.
