When installing a microgenerator (electricity generation capacity up to 11.1 kW), a permit from the Ministry of Economics is not required. The person who wants to install a microgenerator (for example, solar panels) should apply for technical regulations as the distribution system operator in accordance with the procedure specified in Decision No. 1/6 of the Council of the Public Utilities Commission of 22 February 2012 “System Connection Rules for Electricity Producers”.

When implementing a power plant with an electricity generation capacity of over 11.1 kW, a permit from the Ministry of Economics is required in accordance with the Cabinet Regulation No.883 adopted 11 August 2009 “Regulations Regarding Permits for Increasing Electricity Production Capacities or the Introduction of New Production Equipment”

The list of issued permits (as of 30.06.2020.)

After receiving the permit from the Ministry of Economics, the electricity producer must apply to the distribution or transmission system operator in accordance with the procedure specified in the Public Utilities Commission Council Decision No. 1/6 of 22 February 2012 “System Connection Rules for Electricity Producers”. The system operator will issue technical regulations for the installation of the system connection.

After the commissioning of the power plant and connection to the electricity network, the electricity producer must register in the Register of Producers of the Public Utilities Commission if the power plant’s generation capacity is greater than 1 megawatt. If it is planned to trade the produced electricity, then regardless of the capacity of the power plant, the electricity producer must also register with the Public Utilities Commission as an electricity supplier.
