Jānis Vitenbergs, Minister of Economics: “In Latvia, it is essential to put in order the residential stock, make housing more affordable to our citizens and create a sustainable environment for the development of this business. This is why I have defined this as one of my priorities and the priorities of the Ministry of Economics. The European Union co-financing that citizens receive for the renovation of their buildings and for the arrangement of the environment is also a support for our construction industry and for manufacturers of construction materials that makes a significant contribution in the overall development of the Latvian economy. Investments in renovation of buildings make it possible to save energy sources and improve solvency of the population. In the next multiannual programming period of the European Union, we have envisaged support for energy efficiency and promoting the use of renewable energy sources in multiapartment houses and private houses amounting to a total of 163 million euro. Energy efficiency is a responsible lifestyle and today no one has any doubts about its long-term benefits.”

Juris Pūce, Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development: “The implementation of energy efficiency measures apart from environmental and climate benefits contributes significantly to the well-considered, efficient and economic consumption of the resources available to us. I am pleased that MoEPRD and the Ministry of Economics, in cooperation with sectoral experts, have succeeded in creating specific support programmes that encourage not only municipalities and businesses, but also households to behave responsibly in using the resources available.”

Antra Ērgle, chief editor of the “Būvinženieris” magazine:  “Ten years have passed since the targeted renovation of buildings in Latvia. Our national initiative “Living warmer!” has been commended on a European scale, there are neighbourhoods in cities having more renovated multiapartment houses than uninsulated. Our populated areas are getting greener and this is the success of every building renovator and the entire still growing community of energy-efficiency supporters. On behalf of the organisers of the competition, I thank everyone who has put their hands so far and will continue to disseminate green lifestyle ideas.”
