In 2018, the share of energy derived from renewable energy sources (RES) in transport was 4.73% (Eurostat), which is mainly ensured by the mandatory blending requirement for biofuels for petrol and diesel. On average, 1.5% of RES energy comes from RES, which is mainly consumes in rail transport, trams and trolleybuses. Latvia has a well developed electric vehicles charging network on the main roads – 72 chargings stations have been established throughout Latvia, and other measures have been introduced to promote the use of ETL, such as free parking, the possibility to use public transport lanes.
